Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Nkem Okwuofu has advised staff of the Unified Local Government Service to be competent and efficient in discharging their duties.
Chief Okwuofu gave the advice recently during the promotion interview the Commission conducted for over one thousand staff of the Unified Local Government in the state.
According to her, competence and efficiency are yardsticks for the promotion of local government employees, asserting that the era of being promoted without working for it is over.
While noting that promotion interviews were not carried out to victimize staff but to ascertain the quality of staff in the local government service, Chief Okwuofu stated that such basic questions pertaining to each cadre and their daily official duties were asked to checkmate truancy and inefficiency that has eaten deep into the local government system.
Chief Okwuofu used the occasion to call on Heads of Personnel Management and Accountants who have been appointed Treasurers of Local Councils to be good examples and role models to their subordinates as they are at the helms of affairs.
During the interview which was held at the conference hall of the Local Government Service Commission, letters of appointment, confirmation letters, present appointment, certificates and practicing licenses were verified to detect forged and expired ones.
