Ahead of the funeral rites of Madam Rebecca Ayomike, mother of the wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, which commences today (Thursday), with a service of songs, the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and two-time Governor of defunct Bendel State, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia have extolled the virtues of the Governor’s in-law.
Rt. Hon. Amaechi who led a delegation of Rivers State people on a condolence visit on Mrs. Uduaghan and her family, described Madam Rebecca Ayomike as a fulfilled woman going by the successful disposition of her children.
Governor Amaechi noted that apart from the fact that she had trained up her children to the level that they can fend for themselves, Madam Rebecca Ayomike, he learnt was a devoted Christian who ensured that she impacted on all who came across her, adding that the good legacy she left behind would continue to speak for her.
“I believe that Mama had provided all that you need and all the necessary advice that you need to succeed. It is important to note that Mama died at old age and secondly because you are all old enough to take care of yourselves. But one thing I know you will miss is the close relationship and that Mother’s food that you would always want to eat each time you come from Asaba. No matter how best your sister or any other person can cook one thing remains that there is nothing like one’s mother’s food which is different from any other food.”

He prayed God to grant Madam Ayomike eternal rest just as he prayed for the blessings of God for the Children and the people of entire people of Rivers State commiserate with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, the family of Ayomike and the entire people of Delta State.
Responding, the eldest son of Madam Rebecca Ayomike, Mr. Emmanuel Tuoyor, expressed gratitude to Governor Amaechi for identifying with them in this period of mourning. He said they are consoled by the fact that their mother brought them up in a disciplined and well-mannered way.
“Mama led a fulfilled life in Christ Jesus. She was prayerful, dedicated to God and was able to unite the family. Mama was a bridge builder who ensured that we lived in peace with our neighbours and the community in general. We will miss her dearly.”
Present during the condolence visit were the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, the First Lady, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba, Dr. Festus Okubor, Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Ben Igbakpa, Commissioner Oil and Gas, Hon. Mofe Pirah amongst others.
Earlier, two-time Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia has commiserated with Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan over the death of his mother-in-law, Madam Rebecca Ayomike.
In a condolence message to the Governor, Dr. Ogbemudia said he received the news of the passing on of Mama Ayomike with sadness.
“As I pray God to grant Madam Ayomike eternal rest, I send you my deepest condolences”, he stated.
Similarly, a Benin based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Midwest Consultative Forum has condoled Governor Uduaghan on the death of his mother-in-law.
The Forum, in a statement by its Provisional Secretary, Doctor Okunzuwa expressed sorrow over the death of the Governor’s mother-in-law. The Forum prayed God Almighty for the repose of the soul of Mama Ayomike
In a similar development, the General Manager, Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited (DPPCL), publishers of The POINTER titles, Mr. Gabriel Bosah Iwobi, described late Madam Rebecca Ayomike, mother of the wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, as a great gift to humanity.
Iwobo said this when he led a management team on a condolence visit to the First Lady, Iwobi said the death of Madam Ayomike came as a rude shock, but noted that she left behind worthy legacies.
He was accompanied by the Deputy General Manager/Editor-in-Chief, Barrister Festus Isichei; Deputy General Manager (Administration/Personnel), Mr. Jackson Amererhoro; Deputy General Manager (Marketing), Mr. Ken Mordi; Assistant General Manager (Finance/Accounts), Mr. Emeka Ogwude; Editor (Daily), Mrs. Franca Alli and Editor (Sunday), Mrs. Gbubemi Etishola.
“We are proud of the life mama lived; she lived a good life; she was an epitome of womanhood, motherhood and a great gift to humanity. She left so much legacies behind and her name will be written in gold.
“We have come to console you. The testimony pouring in from those who knew her and came close to her summarises her great life. There are so much that one cannot begin to recount them all here today.”
“We need no other example for her good work but you, mother of all, a woman who gives charity to all. Today we know your handiwork and that simply shows that you have followed in her footsteps and footpath,” Mr. Iwobi had said.
Responding, Mrs. Uduaghan said her mother died in God’s grace because there was no other place known to her than the church.
“It is now left for us to prepare our own way so that when death comes knocking; we will be looking forward for God to tell us welcome. And that is why the bible says it is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of celebration.”
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
