Medical Expert Links Infertility On Ignorance

Professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Benin, Prof. Augustine Alenezela Orhue said, ignorance among couple is major challenges of infertility in Nigeria.

Prof. Orhue disclosed this yesterday at an interactive session with journalists in Benin City.

He said that while the disease can as well be traced to biological dysfunction on either couple, however, reaffirmed that there are medical cure for infertility.

“Some couple of months back, as the head of the department, we were able to carry out, at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH) the first IVF conception and delivery successfully through the aid of this technology”, Prof. Orhue said.

While he admonished couple to make used of advance medical to solved problems associated with infertility and child bearing, the health expert advised government on the need to established institutions and centres dedicated exclusively to tackle cases of infertility in Nigeria.
