NURTW Commends Gov. Uduaghan For Intervention To Flood Victims


CHAIRMAN of the Delta State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Ifeanyi Obi has commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his timely intervention in ensuring that victims of flood are not adversely affected.

Comrade Obi gave the commendation in Asaba, said the flood which is currently affecting coastal communities in Delta State has caused monumental damage to lives and property, stating that setting up of camps for victims of the flood was a good move for Governor Uduaghan as such has not only provided temporal shelter but, ensured that victims of the flood have access to medical facilities and relief materials.

The NURTW boss, disclosed that the Union has provided vehicles for the evacuation of victims of the flood noting that the burden of the flood should be borne by all Nigerians and organizations.

He emphasized that the Union was adversely affected as most of the roads have been submerged while members of the Union and their relations were also affected by the flood.

He urged members of the Union not to hike transport fares but rather, see how they can assist those in needs because of the flood, asserting, “this is a national disaster, we are all affected by the flood, the roads are no longer passable because of flood and our relations and members have been chased out of their residence by the flood.”

Comrade Obi used the occasion to thank Governor Uduaghan for releasing tricycles (Keke), speed boats and buses to transporters which he stated would facilitate movement of people and goods especially within the Mba months.
