IT was a colourful celebration today (08/05/16) as the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba marked its 6th year of existence with the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. John Konyeke calling on Christians to be proud of themselves and proclaim the word of God without fear.
According to Fr. Konyeke, “Christians should be proud of where they belong and of what they do and preach the word of God without fear.”
“Today, we are not only celebrating the feast of Ascension but celebrating six years of existence as a Church; we are celebrating three hundred and sixty baptized Catholics within this period, we are celebrating the solemnization of the marriage ceremony of more than sixty six couples, we are celebrating God’s goodness to us as Christians and as a Church,” the Priest said, reiterating, “six years ago, we started with few members but, today, we are more than six hundred members worshipping God as a family, co-existing with the power of love of Christ.”
Rev. Fr. Konyeke urged Christians to always love themselves and live in unity as Jesus charged them to do while awaiting His coming.
“It is wonderful to celebrate, it is wonderful to belong to this society of believers; today, our Lord, Jesus Christ has ascended into heaven and we should honour His admonition to His followers to be one.”
High point of the celebration which also featured baptism and thanksgiving was the cutting of 6th anniversary cake of the Church.
